In a video on Monday, Meta (FB) CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that Instagram will start a pilot with non-fungible token (NFT) integrations this week.
The news already leaked in the weekend prior to the official announcement, with the supported blockchains being Ethereum, Polygon, Solana and Flow.
Although Zuckerberg did not share details on which blockchains would be integrated, a Twitter message revealed that compatible third-party wallets will be MetaMask, Rainbow and TrustWallet and that Instagram will initially support Ethereum-based NFTs, with the Polygon, Solana and Flow blockchains to be added later on.

Zuckerberg said:
“We’re starting building for NFTs not just in our metaverse and Reality Labs work, but also across our family of apps.
We’re going to bring similar functionality to Facebook soon.”
The firm also said three-dimensional, augmented-reality NFTs with its Spark AR software, will be coming soon, notable compatible with Instagram stories.
Soon after its new product was unveiled, the Meta-owned social media platform detailed its intentions in turning non-fungible tokens (NFTs) into a revenue stream for its billion-plus large user base.
Instagram posted a new job opening on Monday, looking for Creator Blockchain Experiences where it is looking for people to aide “define the strategy and roadmap for new blockchain-enabled creator monetization experiences.”
In addition, blockchain technology is meant “to build connections with their fans that are meaningful, monetizable and recognized anywhere,” the job post said.
Aligned with its metaverse ambitions, two weeks ago Meta announced the opening a retail store in Burlingame, California, featuring a a wall-to-wall curved LED screen that displays what users see using Meta headsets.
